Q: Can I rent a horse to ride?

A: At Folly Farm, we only offer riding lessons. Riders utilizing our lesson horses must be under the direction of an instructor at all times. If you are looking for trail riding, we recommend Lee's Riding Stable in Litchfield, CT.

Q: What should I wear to ride?

A: We require that all students mounted on a horse wear long pants, boots that cover the ankle and have a small heel, and an ASTM/SEI certified helmet. We do have helmets to borrow, but we highly recommend students obtain their own helmets. Due to certification requirements, bicycle and sports helmets may not be worn in lieu of an actual riding helmet.

Q. Can I schedule a lesson today?

A. We operate a very busy program. All lessons are pre-booked appointments. It is very rare that we have same day openings, especially during the peak season spring through late fall. Sometimes, even same week openings can be hard to come by. Please schedule early.

Q. Where can I purchase riding attire?

A. We highly recommend The Equestrian Centre in Avon, CT or Dover Saddlery in Manchester, CT. Our instructors are very happy to guide you in making the most suitable purchase for your needs.
